The Relentless Power of Conscience

By Ghaleb Jaber Ibrahim (President of the Araguaney Foundation).

It may be that someone thinks that consciousness is something that human beings can control. In other words, people have the ability to take off the weight of doing objectively wrong. Give me a simple argument that seems to justify my way of acting and I immediately incorporate it as if it were a thought. Thus, they try to turn the normal into the best, when in reality the normal is only the most frequent.

It is also very complex to dismantle an attitude of this type. And it is because saying that one is good being bad, and that what I do is right even if it is bad, can be done from an apparent coherence. On the contrary, when consciousness manifests itself, it usually does so in intimacy and therefore it is not easy to detect the crises suffered by fakers.

When the Zionists in fact and those who aspire to be Zionists appear certain of the need to put an end to Palestine by killing their children with bullets, sticks, bombs or leading them to starvation, they do so for an economic, geostrategic and religious interest that leads them, apparently, to show a total conviction that justifies their attitude.

However, when at some point they have to assume the inevitable and unrelenting weight of conscience, there are usually not many witnesses or even none. Conscience is defined as “the knowledge of good and evil that allows the person to morally judge reality and actions, especially one’s own.” What’s more, it is possible that the consequence of that bad time is to make up for it with worse actions until consciousness returns. And so on. Of course, the day they realize that the decrease in consciousness is a very serious affectation, they run out of nonsense.

In short, even if Israel is convinced of its good doing and believes that it has the capacity to deceive everyone all the time, that is not the case and regression is inevitable.

We Palestinians will always have a place in our land, where we can sit at the door of our house waiting to see the fate of those responsible for one of the greatest atrocities in the history of humanity. It is possible that climate change will extinguish humanity, what is impossible is that Zionism will make the Palestinian people disappear.

There is not the slightest chance that those who lead or support this barbarity will ever be able to gain understanding and respect. I think it would be important for those people who are still in time to get rid of this level of self-suffering.

Nor do I predict much joy for the holders of political power who believe in the absolution of their sins by appealing to the fact that they always had doubts and that something else should have happened. When they realize that the opposite option to support was to condemn and that they did not do so, there will be no possibility of return in deeds or in conscience.

Israel should know that there is no more cruel story than the one you write yourself, since there is no conscience to change it or mind to forget it. They have lost the battle for justice and truth, and they know it.
